Surefire rise to The Challenge

The Little Britain Challenge Cup is the largest regatta in the UK after Cowes Week. As an event it brings together almost 250 companies involved in the industry, each vying for the prestigious Challenge Cup and a respectable position within their class. September 2009 saw the 21st event take place over three days.

Surefire Systems Ltd. of Wallington, Surrey once again entered a yacht into the competition. David Simmonds, Surefire's Chairman, says "This event is an ideal opportunity for Surefire to say thank you to a number of clients who have supported us over the past year and to network with friends and colleagues in the industry. We issue invitations to people of all abilities to crew our racing yacht over each of the three days and they have the opportunity to experience the thrill of real racing conditions in the beautiful setting of the Solent."

Last year Surefire was participating in the IRC Class 3 races. Their yacht 'Extinguished' by Scotch Mist finished a respectable 20th overall in their class. After a first day's racing which saw winds of 25 knots, the following two days suffered from very light winds but plenty of sunshine. Such was the take up on invitations that each day saw a different crew, mostly novices, put through their paces and all worked hard to maintain the final position.

All in all a great event for the industry and as far as Surefire are concerned it is …see you next year!
